Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl)

Skateistan recruits kids from impoverished neighborhoods and teaches them education and life skills, so they can return to, or join, the public school system and get a fair start in life.

For girls, the chance to skateboard presents a unique experience - to compete, to play, to learn their strengths and to gain courage. The film follows a class of girls at Skateistan during a school year as they grow through the joy of skateboarding and the warmth of the women who teach them.

Camp Victory Afghanistan

Camp Victory, Afghanistan gets at the stark reality of the US/NATO "exit strategy" from Afghanistan. Shot over the course of five years, the film follows a battle-hardened Afghan General and the steady stream of U.S. National Guard soldiers deployed to train him and his army.

Using nearly 300 hours of verité footage shot between 2005 and 2008, Camp Victory, Afghanistan, directed by Carol Dysinger, is the first film to examine the reality of building a functioning Afghan military --- but is also a story about friendship and the unlikely bonds that form in war.

A random encounter with a young wounded Afghan in a military hospital sets in motion an unusual and intimate story between two women – the indomitable Bibi Hajji , the mother of the boy, and a film maker from the country that well may have shot him. We see the story of war and it's effects but this time from the cloister of the women's room and through these women's eyes.
